Salted caramel has long beguiled French chefs and confectioners, although in recent years this heavenly combination of sweet and savoury flavours has won over taste buds around the world. Ice cream lovers will be thrilled to know that Häagen-Dazs has just launched its newest flavour, Salted Caramel, to its family of premium ice creams!
To celebrate the launch, Häagen-Dazs has collaborated with top speciality cocktail bars in Singapore and invited their award-winning mixologists such as Din Hassan from Bitters & Love, Ethan Leslie Leong from Maison Ikkoku and Zachary de Git from Tippling Club to create delectable cocktails with this brand new flavour. Here’s where I am tasked to check out!
Bitters & Love is the new bespoke cocktail bar, located at 36 North Canal Road (just opposite Central, Clarke Quay). Driven by love and passion, Din and his team are dedicated to making the best seasonal customized cocktails, which change every 3 months.
Din has more than 20 years of combined experience in the F&B industry. He was the bar consultant for various establishments including Sky57 in Jakarta, Doors in Cambodia and Lucha Loco in Singapore. He also represented Remy Cointreau Mixology for the I.B.A World Cocktail Championship 2010 and served as a guest judge for the AFJ Cocktail Competition 2011. I am definitely looking forward to savour his creation!
There’s quite a wide range of cocktails served and they are pretty reasonably priced. But no distractions, I have reserved my Monday post dinner cocktail for my Häagen-Dazs concoction.
To catch the action at a speciality cocktail bar, you got to be sitting right at the bar. Hmm.. wondered what’s with all these passion-fruits.
Mr bartender knew what I was there for and there goes our hero for the evening – Häagen-Dazs Salted Caramel Ice Cream!
Ah… so that’s what the passion-fruits were for. The pulp was cleaned out and added into the mixture.
After adding in Häagen-Dazs Chocolate, Mount Gay Eclipse Rum and Fresh Ginger, he gave the mix a good shake up.
The concoction was ready to be served after some final touch up.
Häagen-Dazs Passion-fruit Cocktail ($22) was a delicate sight for sore eyes.
The cocktail was topped with a single scoop of Häagen-Dazs Salted Caramel in a hollowed passion-fruit that was seated on top of a waffle. Its not the easiest cocktail to defuse! We ended up making quite a mess ….
Our verdict? This is a cocktail for people who loves to have a sweet & savoury start before having their alcohols. We simply adore the delicious caramel ice cream that’s laced with silky ribbons of salted caramel and delicate brittle. The ice cream flavours however were less noticeable in concoction. Passion-fruit took centre stage while the cocktail after-taste was pretty much dominated by the rum.
Through its collaboration with cocktail bars, Häagen-Dazs is offering dessert and cocktail lovers a unique experience to enjoy its new ice cream flavour. The bars will take turns to showcase their luscious concoctions, starting with Bitters & Love from 18th March, Maison Ikkoku from 25th March and Tippling Club from 1st April. The cocktails will be available till end of May at each bar.
