Marvel Studios with Marina Bay Sands put together an unforgettable Avengers: Infinity War MBS Singapore event for 4,000 Avengers fans as they rallied at the Event Plaza to welcome the formidable cast of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Karen Gillan (Nebula), director Joe Russo and executive producer Trinh Tran. The evening was filled with heart-stopping moments, from a surprise appearance by the talent in Sands Expo, to the superheroes arrival on the grand purple carpet at the Event Plaza, to a spectacular show of laser, light and water projections, and a display of pyrotechnics.
Avengers: Infinity War MBS Singapore – The Super Heroes Gathering
On 16 April (Saturday), it seemed like every spotlight in the world was on Marina Bay Sands as it kicked off the global release of the biggest and most-awaited Marvel movie to date. As a leading event space in Singapore, the integrated resort has been the premier choice for events related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2014, it hosted the global red-carpet event for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Jamie Foxx. This time, however, the fun and entertainment value reached new heights as the resort teamed up with Marvel and The Walt Disney Company to revolutionize the concept of fan events.
Instead of the usual red-carpet setup, they created an engaging and interactive show in true Marvel fashion. The show’s narrative was built on the Avengers: Infinity War story arc, which culminated in Singapore being the location for the sixth and final Infinity Stone that the movie’s villain – Thanos – is in search of. Robert Downey Jr. declared it the “coolest fan event” that he had been to, while Benedict Cumberbatch said the event was “utterly surreal”, praising fans who had been waiting for hours for a chance to see their superheroes.
The event offered a fully immersive fan experience, where everyone attending got to play a part in a narrative crafted by director Joe Russo. There was strength in numbers as fans were joined by the cast, with Russo getting the crowd to collectively call out the catchphrase, “Avengers Assemble”, to reveal the Soul Stone, a 12m-high glass prism that is a part of Spectra light and water show.
Also gracing the event were George Tanasijevich, President and Chief Executive Officer of Marina Bay Sands, and Mahesh Samat, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, The Walt Disney Company, South Asia.
Fans were up in full force since early morning to get their hands on the event access when Hall B at Sands Expo and Convention Centre opened for registration. By 10am, all 4,000 wristbands for the Event Plaza were collected. Those who failed to secure their access were not turned away empty-handed. Another 3,000 fans were given access to Sands Expo Hall A, where the entire event was live-streamed. They were also given an extra treat as the talent made a surprise appearance in true Hollywood fashion. Throughout the day, the Hall was also transformed into space for fans to watch screenings of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.

Avengers: Infinity War MBS Singapore – Supporting Charities & Inspiring Students
The event gave the perfect ending to a two-day press tour for the stars of Avengers: Infinity War, which also enabled both Walt Disney Studios and Marina Bay Sands to provide unique opportunities for students and the charities they support.
On 15 April (Sunday), 37 cancer survivors from the Make-A-Wish Singapore Foundation were given the opportunity to meet Robert Downey Jr., who, in his role as Iron Man, awarded them the title of Honorary Avengers for battling and surviving cancer. Robert Downey Jr. helped swear in 37 children from the Make-A-Wish Singapore Foundation as honorary Avengers on Sunday.
Joe Russo and executive producer Trinh Tranh were also joined by visual effects artist Jeff Capogreco and Singaporean hometown hero, Adam Lee, for a filmmakers’ session with 169 students from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore American School, Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Spectra Secondary School. The students were invited by the integrated resort as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Sands for Singapore, which champions youth and education.
Since 2011, the Sands for Singapore initiative has been collaborating with communities and non-profit organizations in the country to create positive social impact through the arts. Apart from launching festivals and events, Marina Bay Sands also encourages the public to take part in the programme through financial and in-kind support. One of the strengths of this programme lies in its access to world-class talents and personalities, as seen tonight, which helps push its social impact.
