Everyone wants clean and clear complexion. In the not so distanced past, people simply resigned themselves to the skin type that they are born with and try to make themselves look better by using loads of skincare products. With medical aesthetics treatments on a more affordable price tag in recent years, l am all ready to change my skin’s destiny. After a few rounds of online research and asking around, I finally decided to entrust the lifting of age and imperfections of my skin to EPW Laser + Medical Aesthetics Clinic.
Founded by Medical Director – Dr EP Wong, this clinic has clocked over 20 years in medical aesthetics practice. I feel assured by the clinic’s good track record and the results enjoyed by their patients. This is only achievable by ensuring that their plethora of safe and effective medical aesthetic procedures are only performed by experienced, highly skilled and qualified doctors. When it comes to procedures on my face, it’s not just about the equipment; it’s the discerning eye, experience and skill of the specialist that matters. I am not a risk taker.
The service provided by the counsellors was amazing. After registering my attendance, I was seated with my warm beverage of choice and provided with the relevant brochures of the treatments that I am interested in. I was informed that Dr Melvin Tan (Associate Doctor) will guide me through a thorough consultation and assessment session before recommending a suitable procedure.
While waiting, it’s hard not to notice the stunning view of Takashimaya & Orchard Road from the clinic’s full length glass windows. The view and calming environment helps to relax my mind from work and get me ready for my consultation session.
I was a little worried about the procedure before I met Dr Melvin Tan but his friendly and assuring disposition soon put me at ease. He was attentive and spent quality time listening to my ‘wish list’ and learn more about my lifestyle before recommending an appropriate procedure, series of procedures, or program. For my concern on scars from previous acne, he recommended Fractional CO2 Laser which has a relatively short downtime of 3 to 5 days. The ‘dot-mesh’ pattern of this laser treatment removes microscopic columns of skin and leaves tiny sections of the skin in between untouched, promoting collagen production and rapid recovery. He is confident that the treatment will improve skin texture and helps to smoothen my skin.
Dr Melvin Tan shared with me that he has one ultimate goal in mind when treating his patients – to inspire happiness. His exact words are “Nothing compares to the satisfaction of being able to bring out someone’s natural features, helping people not only look but also feel better”. With that, I booked my procedure date on a Friday afternoon to rest and recover from the downtime over the weekend.
The clinic was really thoughtful to give me a reminder call just a day before the scheduled procedure. On the actual day, I came by 30 minutes earlier to run through some simple briefing and paperwork with a counsellor. She was patient and commanded strong knowledge on Fractional CO2 Laser.
Before the session start, my counsellor took some really unflattering close up photos of my face. Ekks, my complexion looked like the moon’s surface. I hope this is my life changing moment for radiant and flawless skin.
She applied a strong topical anesthetic cream 10 minutes before treatment; I could not feel much of my face once the effect kicked in. At the operating theatre, the laser treatment head is passed over the surface of the treatment area in a series of horizontal and vertical overlapping passes. The entire procedure took around 30 to 45 minutes. I felt a slight sting during the session but it was pretty manageable. During and after the treatment, a cooling device will be placed on the skin to reduce discomfort and the redness on my skin lasted around 2 to 3 hours.
Dr Melvin Tan told me that a second treatment should be done after 6 weeks. To achieve desired results, I would probably require 3 or more treatments to be determined during subsequent consultation. Different people have different expectation of downtime; this is how I look on Day 3 after my Fractional CO2 Laser. I am perfectly fine to head out for shopping but with the necessary sunscreen.
After a week of recovery, I witnessed a slight lightening of my acne scars. Dr Tan tells me that I am recovering well and better results will come in the next few weeks. I will be having a second follow up with him in a month’s time. I am really pleased with the standard of care and concern exhibited by Dr Melvin Tan and the counsellors. Other than dealing acne scars, the clinic also provide the following services:
