When you think of Virginia, what are the things that come to your mind first? Lying over a sand-free towel on the Beach, looking at the surfers, watching the sunset with your loved one, partying? If you are thinking about moving to Virginia, here are some crucial things you need to know. 

Pros

First, Virginia is a beautiful state. It’s lovely, very green out there. There’s always something to do. Virginia Beach is more diverse than anywhere else. There’s also the military town. You have a lot of people from the Navy, Marines, and Army.

There are several military bases -one in Fort Eustis, one in Norfolk. That’s something you could look forward to if you do come to Virginia that it is a military town. And also, it is relatively easy to get a job in Virginia. Without any degree, you can quickly get a higher than minimum wage job here. So that’s always a plus.

And I would say the weather is not that bad. Here, it snows, but the snow doesn’t stay. It doesn’t get up to like one or two feet. It’s always sunny.

The housing here is expensive, depending on where you will be living. Like Virginia Beach, it’s going to be more costly than Norfolk. Williamsburg is kind of expensive in Virginia Beach, but the other locations, the other cities are not that expensive.

Overall it’s a decent place to live. I would consider those things- the traffic, the high crime rate, and property taxes. It’s hard to avoid the crime, but if you’re not doing anything wrong, it’s okay to live here. You know they do have great colleges out there.

A lot of HBCUs. A lot of decent colleges around town.

If you move here, you’ve got lots of options for day-trips. Virginia Beach, while technically it’s in the corner of Virginia. The south-eastern corner of Virginia. It has lots of access to other cities in and around the East Coast. For instance, you’ve got mountains for hours away to the Blue Ridge Mountains. You’ve got Beach, but you’ve got the Outer Banks as well. An hour and a half away to the Outer Banks of northeastern North Carolina and then three hours away from Washington DC.

Cons

But what people dislike living in Virginia. I would start by saying the crime is so high. The crime rate is ridiculously high here—all sorts of crazy stuff. The crime rate is very high, especially in urban areas. So that is something to consider if you’re moving to Virginia.

Virginia is a Commonwealth state, so you have to pay for tolls you have to pay for property tax, and you pay an extra fee like -on your groceries.

The cost of living and the amount of money you make here doesn’t equal. It doesn’t add up together that you will live a decent life here. Because you’re not going to be able to make enough money if you want to buy a house. You got to pay your property tax like twice a year if you have a minimum-wage job or something like that.

You’ll probably don’t want to live here because it’ll be too expensive for you. It might take up to an hour or two to clear a traffic jam sometimes when you are coming back home in the evening.

Tips to enjoy living in Virginia

I think these tips can help everyone, whether you’re a Virginia native or moving into the state, just getting familiar with it.

1. One of my most important tips and this might seem stereotypical for pretty much most states, especially in Virginia and more of the southern states you have to have a car. There’s no question about it. There’s a lot of cool things to do in Virginia, but it’s much easier if you have a car. Especially one that’s stable when it’s running well in the state. There are not many public transportation options you can take. You have to have some wheels in Virginia. You have to be able to go places, and that’s the best way to do it in this state.
2. I would recommend getting to know people. Get to know your neighbours. That is an amiable state. People in Virginia love to talk. Get a network of people you can trust and talk to them. Just get out there, see people, do things there are so many great things to do in Virginia.

You are checking your local area. See what sort of events are going on. There are a lot of games and fun things that go on in Virginia. Do you have to know where to check? I would recommend looking it up online. Virginia is an excellent tourism website.

1. There’s a lot of awesome events going on, and what area are you living? Virginia is a vast state. There are continuous concerts; festivals are happening. There’s one thing or another. No matter where you live, I almost guarantee that there are many things to do in Virginia. You have to be able to go out there, find it, and meet new people.
2. Just getting out there in general, I would recommend that visit the Appalachian Mountains.
3. Visit the Beach; that’s another top thing I have to say. Nothing’s wrong going out and adventuring a little visit the Appalachian Mountains. Visit Virginia Beach, Yorktown, the waterfront. See things.

In-state Virginia, there is so much to offer, and it would be a shame to miss out on that. Of course, I can understand circumstances might not permit it, but if you have an opportunity, by all means, take the chance.

Conclusion

Virginia Beach is a decent place to live. But living in different rental houses or hotels might be a bit costly here. But overall, this is a posh place to live for a few years. So, it’s not something you should like to cross off your list but something to consider that it does have a lot of cons that you should be aware of. And where you live, check out the city before you know to move there. Do your research very very well.
