Australia, one of the world’s most isolated destinations can be quite pricey to visit. However, the recent declines in the Australian Dollar have made it a much more affordable destination for many adventurers. What many tourists don’t realise is that Australia is an extremely large continent. If you only have a few weeks to spare, you would probably want to choose just two or three regions to visit. Most first time visitors would choose to travel to Sydney but if you want a truly authentic experience in the summer, you should explore West Australia – one of Down Under’s most beautiful region.
Perth
Perth is the only major city on the West Coast of Australia. It is the most isolated city in the world, outside of Honolulu. It is quite expensive to access, even from other major Australia cities, flights can cost up to $600 roundtrip. Companies like Take a Break Travel can help and according to a recent Tourism Review they are the travel company to go to for all of your travel needs. If it’s summertime, and you decide to make the journey, you will not regret it. The area is home to some of the world’s most amazing beaches. Fishing, diving, and surfing are plentiful. The area has plenty of coastal bars and restaurants that give you a great sunset view while you’re enjoying a meal or drink. The centre of the city, located on Swan River, has a great small bar culture and plenty of shopping opportunities.
Rottnest Island
Rottnest Island is located just an hour boat ride away from mainland Perth. You can access it through purchasing a ticket for the Rottnest Express. There are no private vehicles allowed on the island – which has helped keep it is a naturally beautiful as possible. You have to purchase a bus ticket or rent a bike to access the majority of the island. There are good restaurants and plenty of cheap accommodation. This is a favourite holiday destination for many Australians. If you’re planning on staying overnight on the island, you’ll want to book accommodation as far in advance as possible.
Southwest Region
Around three hours south of Perth lies some of the nation’s most rugged terrain and popular wineries. It’s also home to some of the world’s best surf if you’re looking for a place to learn the ropes. Dunsborough and Yallingup are the most popular towns in the area – both have plenty of accommodation and places to eat and drink. You’ll want to hire a car from Easyrentcars or take a bus as there are no regional airports in the area. There are also plenty of hiking trails in the region that take you on long walks across the rugged coastline.
Should You Head to Perth?
All in all — West Australia is the perfect summer destination if you can afford the price tag. Make sure to book well in advance if you want to be able to find cheap accommodation. Also, Australia is in the Southern hemisphere, so if you’re looking for a summer holiday you’ll have to book for between November and March.
