Your First Yacht Charter & How To Book One Like A Boss

You’re probably planning to rent a yacht sometime soon and perhaps it’s the first time you do that. If you want a luxury yacht charter, you came to the right place. We’ve written this article to give you the best tips to keep in mind for your yacht charter trip. Welcome to your first yacht charter experience and how to book one like a boss!

The Guests You Are Entertaining

It’s very important to choose carefully the people you’re leaving with. This is probably going to be the holiday of your life, so you need to make sure that there’s nothing there to ruin it. When everybody’s on the same page, everything will run smoothly, but if you know that not everyone will not have the same interests, is better to plan your guests and the trip destinations ahead of time. Everyone will have time to agree on details and talk about all the ideas they come with. Talk about the budget, the right boat type and the expectations.

Picking The Right Yacht

When choosing a boat, you need to be realistic when it comes to money and comfort and skills.

If you want a lot of space in the interior and on the deck, then you’ll need a catamaran. It’s the perfect boat if you want to anchor on amazing beaches in protected bays. If you want to anchor in a port every night, then you should keep in mind that there are also some fees as well. If you’re experienced, you may want monohulls, if not, go for a catamaran, as it has two motors and it’s easy to manoeuvre and it’s more stables in waves.

Get Proper Insurance For Your Trip

This goes without saying, but you’ll need insurance. There are 2 types of yacht charters: a deposit and the skipper liability insurance. Also, you need to keep in mind the travel expenses in case you cancel your insurance for the skipper and he bails on the charter. This will guarantee you that if the skipper does not get to the destination, then you won’t lose all your travel expenses.

How much experience do you actually need to pilot the yacht or sailboat yourself? As said earlier, you need to be realistic. So ask yourself if you can really sail a boat. Don’t overestimate your skills.

If one member of the group has a skipper’s license or can prove that he has sailing experience, then it’s enough. However, this does not work for Greece, where you’ll need a second person in the group to prove that he can be the co-skipper. The regions are different – it’s quite different to sail in the Mediterranean Sea, in comparison with sailing in the colder regions if there is a storm. It doesn’t matter if you know how to sail – it might be better to just hire a skipper, at least for the first days of your charter.  You will also enjoy your vacation more.
