Looking for a unique Singapore experience? This December, the new Kampong G(e)lamping @ MHC programme will allow you to wake up in the lovely grounds of the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC), a National Monument situated in the heart of Kampong Gelam, after spending an afternoon and night being immersed in the rich Malay cultural atmosphere of the Kampong Gelam heritage precinct.
Kampong Glamping – Glamping With A Cultural Twist
MHC is opening up its compound and inviting the public to experience glamping with a cultural twist, with a fun-filled itinerary across two days. Each day from 15 to 24 December 2020, a group of up to five can book a 2D1N experience which includes a never-before opportunity to spend a night under the stars on MHC’s beautiful lawn.
Ms Asmah Alias, General Manager of MHC, said, “We are always looking for creative ways to showcase our rich cultural heritage to Singaporeans. In this time of travel restrictions, we wanted to introduce a different and novel local experience – to G(e)lam-p up Singaporeans’ staycation plans and allow them to rediscover new facets of Singapore’s heritage through this one-of-a-kind overnight experience. We look forward to welcoming friends and families to join us in creating unique memories with the Kampong G(e)lamping @ MHC pilot programme, and we hope to continue rolling out more of such experiences in future.”
Kampong Glamping – What You Can Expect
Two cosy tents will be set up – one furnished with two queen-sized beds as well as a hammock for a quality sleeping experience, and the other for a night-time cinematic experience with a projector screen, speaker and bean bags. Both tents will be equipped with a portable aircon and fan, fresh linens and quilt for extra comfort, and decorative lights for an extra festive feel!
Kampong Glamping – Activities While You Stay
Over the 2D1N experience, G(e)lam-pers can also look forward to a guided heritage tour of Kampong Gelam precinct which will take them to the iconic murals of Haji Lane, help them discover new perspectives from local bakers and tea-makers behind the specialty shops in the district, and also reveal lesser-known stories of iconic landmarks such as Sultan Mosque; a specially curated tour of MHC’s galleries, including its upcoming Urang Banjar: Heritage and Culture of the Banjar in Singapore special exhibition;
an indulgent Malay dinner of specialities such as Nasi Kerabu and sambal tempe prepared in an outdoor set-up in front of everyone’s eyes by a personal chef and culinary instructor Ruqxana Vasanwala as well as calming their minds with morning yoga stretches.
Kampong Glamping – Safe Management Measures For Safety
Keeping in mind the safety of the G(e)lam-pers and programme partners involved, MHC will ensure that the set-up and activities offered adhere to the prevailing safe management measures. All personnel involved will have their temperature taken and recorded before entering the premises and masks will have to be worn at all times. The tents, beddings and props will undergo deep cleaning, sanitisation and disinfection after each group leaves. As an SG Clean certified attraction, MHC has also raised standards of cleanliness and hygiene within their premises to safeguard public health. G(e)lam-pers will likewise have to adhere to the general safe management measures at MHC during their visit.
