I met up with Colin to try out other peranakan dishes at The Arch Restaurant on a Friday evening.
We decided to order a few dishes over simple plain rice. Colin started his meal by ordering Bakwan Kepiting Soup and I took the liberty to take a few sips. 😛 It is a simple soup of meatballs and shredded bamboo shoots in a clear chicken broth. The meatballs are made from minced pork and prawn, shredded crab meat and julienned turnips. Next came the Ngoh Hiang which I really regretted ordering…..it taste like typical (Yawn…..boring)
We went on to order my champion peranakan dish! Ayam Buak Keluak! The Buak Keluak here is slightly different from that of Guan Hoe Soon. The buak keluak nut has been crushed and form part of the thick delicious paste!
Guan Hoe Soon on the other hand, clean and stuff the buah keluak meat paste back into the empty nut shells.
Ok, I have to bring this particular dish into the lime light. The modest but surprisingly delicious Assam Pork! The meat is nice and tenderly soaked in assam sauce. Yummy!
Last but not least, I present to you Sambal Sotong! It’s not bad, just that the sotong is in quite huge portions and can be quite a mouthful.
Would love to have a peranakan durian pudding as a sweet ending to the delicious meal…too bad they dun serve them in The Arch. Recommendations anyone?
