The hype of Pokemon Go Gen 2 has started to wane. With no major festival in the horizon, the folks decided to throw in a Pokémon Go Water Festival with some special perks to get players hooked again. The event is actually meant to correspond with World Water Day started by the United Nations to bring attention to the worldwide clean water crisis. The event has already commenced in Singapore and is expected to runs until 29 March 2017 (Wednesday). As the name suggest, Niantic will be increasing the spawn rate of water-based Pokémon so follow us as we dive deep into the highlights.
1. Best Time To Get Your Lapras & Gyarados
You can expect to see more water-based Pokémon appear in the wild during the festival. Here are the confirmed Pokémon that will see an increase in spawn rate: Magikarp (and evolution Gyarados), Squirtle (and evolutions Wartortle and Blastoise), Totodile (and evolutions Croconaw and Feraligatr) and of course the legendary Lapras
2. Marill Becomes Your New Rattata
You will also be hitting on more of Gen 2 Johto Water Pokémon such as Marill, Azumarill, Chinchou, Lanturn, Wooper, Quagire, Quilfish, Corsola, Remoraid, Octillery & Mantine. In fact, you will soon get sick of seeing Marill as it has now replaced the excessive Rattata.
3. Wear Your Magikarp Hat
You can now find the Magikarp Hat in the store which you can buy using Pokécoins! We are not sure if it is exactly a fashion statement but it sure fits the festival. It might also be a limited time offer just during the Water Festival.
4. Possible Arrival Of Shiny Magikarp & Red Gyarados
Shiny Pokémon is a rare different-colored variant of normal Pokémon. With no special impact in the game, they are just a rare creature to add to your collection. which is what this game is all about. It’s real and some fellow Singaporeans have already caught the shiny Magikarp and successfully evolved it into the Red Gyarados. Awesome!
5. Get A Random Evolution Item Every 7 Days!
Not limited to the festival is the fabulous news that you can get to own a random Evolution item on the 7th Day of your ‘First PokéStop of the Day’ streak. This new bonus is fantastic for players who have lots of Gen 1Pokémon just waiting for Evolution items to get to the next stage.
6. No Additional Perks
Unfortunately for this event, there are no bonuses or sales perks attached to it. So you will not be seeing double XP, Stardust or Candy as well as Increased Lure Time. Sad…..
