After oil was found near the city of Dubai in the 60s of the last century, this area began to develop rapidly. Historical facts
Seven thousand years ago, there were mangrove swamps in the place where Dubai is now. The ground was muddy, only mangrove trees grew. After 2 thousand years, this territory was covered with sand, and 2500 years ago, palm dates appeared. The first people came here, they worshipped the god Bajir, who is mentioned in the Sumerian cuneiform texts.
From the 1st to the 19th century there was no special historical data about the territory where Dubai is now located. It is only known that the Sassanids were here and found caravan sites.
Everything changed in the 19th century when representatives of the Al Abu Falezi clan came there, however, they were quickly replaced by the al-Maktoum dynasty. During this period, the city had to endure two disasters – a smallpox epidemic and a fire in the Deira region. But this did not break the local population. Soon, traders from India and Iran began to come here, and Dubai gradually became a trade centre.
