Get your 70s outfit and dancing shoes ready because this September 2015, you will be treated to a brand-new production of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER the Musical, one of the most loved dance stories of all time! The 2015 Asian Tour of the West End and Broadway iconic dance musical will feature a revamped script and completely re-conceptualised production, which comes to the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands for a limited season from 25 September 2015. Tickets are now on sale.
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER’s Asian Tour, its first in eight years, comes off the heels of the show’s current sold out UK Tour and will feature an international cast from the United States and Manila. The date is 1976 and in Brooklyn, New York, Tony Manero, a young man with a dead-end job at a Paint Shop and an extraordinary ability to dance, has only one ambition in life – to become the disco king. When he meets Stephanie, who also dreams of a world beyond Brooklyn, and they decide to train together for a dance competition, their lives begin to change forever.
Every Saturday night at a local discotheque, Tony dons his flares and struts his stuff on the dance floor—causing a stir as he wows the crowd with his extraordinarily rare dance strokes. He dances to popular songs from the film such as “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “More Than A Woman,” “Tragedy,” “Disco Inferno,” “How Deep is Your Love,” and “You Should Be Dancing”. When Tony meets office worker-turned-dancer Stephanie Mangano, they both train together for a dance competition, which will eventually change the course of their lives.
If you are not familiar with its history, this musical not only made a dance revolution at that time, but also spoke directly to a generation of lost, struggling young adults.
We adore the choreographed dance moves, music and amazing voices of the performers. The story presented the original movie’s darker themes, such as pre-marital pregnancy, gang violence and racism which was a little to heavy for our liking. Folks who have never watched the film before the musical are likely to get lost at the whirlwind of events that happened after Tony and Stephanie won the dance competition.
Overall a great performance, if you are there for the singing, music and groovy dance moves, you would not be disappointed. Go get your ticket now!
