Skyscanner announces the winners for its Asia Pacific (APAC) Bloscars Travel Awards 2014 Winners at its ‘Google like’ regional office in Singapore on 22 March 2014. The Bloscars Travel Award 2014 is an award given by Skyscanner to travel blogs from selected countries in Europe and Asia. It recognizes the excellent work of travel bloggers in informing and inspiring travelers by sharing their adventures and first-hand experience. The event was attended by the respective national winners from six countries – Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea and Thailand. That’s us resting after a quick tour of Skyscanner office. The folks at Skyscanner enjoy free-flow beverages and get to play Ping Pong while taking a break. How cool is that!
Next, everyone gathered at one of their themed Meeting Rooms (Borobudur, Indonesia) where Andy Sleigh, Skyscanner’s General Manager for Asia Pacific (APAC) delivered his opening address.
Andy Sleigh, Skyscanner’s General Manager for Asia Pacific (APAC) said, “This is the second time we have organised the Bloscars Travel Award and the quality of participants has been extraordinarily high. We are pleased to celebrate and award these travel aficionados for their dedication in bringing their travel experiences to the blogosphere, informing and inspiring travellers around the world. Their work complements Skyscanner’s promise to provide travellers with a convenient and hassle-free travel booking experience no matter what journey they’re on.”
Singapore-based travel blog, Travel and Beyond, was announced as the Asia Pacific winner of the Bloscars Travel Award 2014. Joseph Ellis and Rosemarie John, the husband and wife team behind Travel and Beyond said, “Writing about our passion for travel has always been something we enjoy very much, especially when we receive feedback from fans. But to be recognised by the public for doing what we love, and to win this award this evening, is truly amazing. We are really honoured and thankful to Skyscanner and the public for giving us this award.”
AspirantSG is thrilled to bag the position as the 4th Travel Blog in Singapore. That’s me getting the award from Andy Sleigh.
The competition started on 16th December 2013 and consisted of three stages – Nomination period; National Bloscars Award; and the International Bloscars Award. During the nomination stage, travel blogs nominated by the public were narrowed down to ten finalists by Skyscanner, based on the visual appeal of their blog, inspirational travel content, practical tips for readers, originality and creativity. Here’s a group shot of the Singapore Travel Blog Contingent!
A national winner was then chosen from the finalists, based on 50% of the public’s vote, and 50% of Skyscanner’s votes. In Singapore, the 10 finalists were Travel and Beyond, Sylistic, Chiamhuiy, AspirantSG, No Foreign Lands, Ladyironchef, Passportchop, The Occasional Traveller, Travelgraphy and TravelerFolio. Happy to also get to know Sylistic & The Occasional Traveller at the event. You can read the profiles of all the Singapore finalists here
The International Bloscars Travel Award winner will receive S$4,000 worth of flights, while each of the national winners will receive S$1,500 worth of flights. During the four-week voting period, 4 members of the public who took part in the weekly travel tip competition also won S$500 worth of flights.
Thank you Skyscanner for presenting the APAC Bloscars Travel Award 2014 and bringing the Top Travel Bloggers in Asia Pacific together. We had a great time interacting with one another. Don’t be surprise to see more guest posts and collaborations with fellow regional bloggers in the near future!
