Tamarind Hill CNY Reunion Menu Ushers In A Paws-perous Year

We are usually rather selective when it comes to attending Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner Tastings. There is always an awful tussle between sampling good food and keeping our waistline in check. However, the invitation from Tamarind Hill was accepted almost immediately. Reputed for their special blend of authentic cuisine and ambience, we were excited to both savour their CNY Reunion menu and to explore this gorgeous restaurant. Join us as we taste their oriental celebrations menu and experience their warm hospitality.

Tamarind Hill CNY Reunion – History

According to our host, the building which Tamarind Hill resides in was built in 1875 by Sir George Mansfield, founder of the shipping company George Mansfield & Co. Within the spacious bungalow which he called, ‘Labrador Villa’, Mansfield lived with his wife and three children. After his retirement, Mansfield and his family returned to his home country, and he returned the property back to the British. Soon after, it was converted into the Brigadier general’s house, a chalet for doctors and nurses from the Singapore General Hospital after the war, and recently in early 2000, a luxury spa. Labrador Villa Road was named after the bungalow.

Tamarind Hill CNY Reunion – The Experience

During our visit, the path leading towards the main restaurant was already beautifully decked out in celebratory red lanterns. It was quite a sight to behold.

The waiting area before dinner commence was intimate yet welcoming at the same time.

We could hardly make our way towards our table without being seduced by their restaurant bar.

Tamarind Hill CNY Reunion – The Menu

Back to business, the folks at Tamarind Hills welcome the Lunar New Year auspiciously and celebrate joyous reunions with a selection of exquisite culinary flavours, with a traditional Thai twist. You and your loved ones are invited to revel in the festivities at Tamarind Hill and welcome a lucky and prosperous year ahead with their distinctive menu specially crafted by Executive Chef Wanthana Nikonsaen.

From now till 2 March 2018, indulge in Thai-Shan interpretations of Luna New Year favourites and toss to a year of abundance with their Yu Shengs that feature elements of Thai cuisine. Our Thai inspired Yu Sheng comprises Fresh Salmon and unique ingredients such as Shredded Taro, Sweet Potato and Tamarind Sauce. This was the first time that we ever saw Yu Sheng served on large slabs of banana leaves. We love the refreshing mix of ingredients but it can get messy when the banana leaves get torn in the case of a violent Lo Hei!

Next, we came our appetizers which consist of Steamed Sago Pork Dumplings & Fish Roe Marinated in Red Curry which was wrapped and grilled in a banana leaf. The fish roe was again a first for us.

Barramundi and Ginger Soup was next to be served. It comprises of a hot and sour soup with generous slices of ocean-farmed barramundi.

Finally, our mains for the evening was served. The dish comprises of Tiger Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk Sauce, Five-spice Braised Pork Knuckle with shiitake mushrooms, kai lan, and seaweed as well as Longevity Noodles for good luck.

The entire experience ended on a sweet note with Glutinous Rice Balls Stuffed with Sesame and Honeydew Sago with Vanilla Ice Cream.

If you are looking for a Lunar New Year with a twist of Thai flavours, you get to savour their set menu at $88 ++ per person.  Book early to avoid disappointment.
