The Fabulous Baker Boy At Fort Canning Has Gotten Less Hot

After a lovely night at Novotel Clarke Quay, I figured the best way to end off a wonderful staycation would be a satisfying brunch at The Fabulous Baker Boy Cafe that’s right across the road. Not known to many of the younger Singaporeans, the foothills of Fort Canning Park used to be the former River Valley Swimming Complex and the very area that the cafe is now operating on used to be its canteen.

There’s little doubt that we are are near one of NPark Offices. You can to enjoy a scenic walk with rows of flowering plants that lined our path to the cafe.

While waiting for our table to be ready, we decided to laze around the bench and bask in the early morning sun for some good old Vitamin E. I probably would never that in the past if not my new Transitions Signature Lenses. With them, gone are the days of switching between normal glasses and shades, and strong sunlight is now much more bearable.

The cafe has undergo quite a bit of change since the last time I was here. The owners have extended their glass walls to allow more customers within the comfortable air-conditioned environment.

The extension of the air-conditioned interior was a great bonus. Alfresco dining is pretty difficult under the hot, humid Singapore weather. Diners can now enjoy daytime dining in a cooler and much more comfortable environment.

Towkay Ng’s Egg Benedict ($12.50) was one of the recommended brunch items on the menu. You get 2 poached eggs served on a toasted brioche, sauteed spinach, roasted rosemary potatoes and an italian version of a hollandaise. The eggs were done well but I still find the italian hollandaise milder in taste compared to others.

That’s my 3 Cheese Pancakes ($12). These golden brown and sunshine looking pancakes packed 3 potent cheeses – cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan. The results? You get pancakes that’s absolutely orgasmic (if you are a cheese lover) at the first few bites but the taste can get a little too much after a while. These pancakes are for sharing not individual.
