Looking back a year ago, I remembered how I got to know Karen through DanielFoodDiary. I was Daniel’s buddy for Plaza Brasserie’s sumptuous Crab Fiesta. And now I am back again at Plaza Brasserie to celebrate my One Year Friendship Anniversary with Karen, Daniel, William, Jessie, Shuqing, Joey and Jenny over Singapore’s Ultimate Crab Feast at PARKROYAL on Beach Road!
From 5 June to 31 August, Plaza Brasserie will be offering the sumptuous Crab Feast under its popular Best of Asia themed from Mondays to Sundays. You get to choose from their wide range of appetizers such as Dijon Crab Cakes with Coriander Paste, Chicken Salad with Pesto, Tang Hoon Salad, Spicy Tuna Salad, Bread Crab Claw, Mini Crab Meat Samosas, Olive & Potato Crabmeat Balls with Pesto, Crabmeat Paste, Baked Whole Salmon with Spicy Dip and a variety of Dim Sums. My personal favourite is this cheesy delicacy below. It’s a die die must try (when it is hot lah… not that fantastic if it has been left for a while.)
I usually make a beeline for the expensive stuff. Did I mention that they serve free flow of sliced abalone? Super shiok!
Before we bring out the big guns, let’s start at the Noodles Section with Curry Noodle with Soft Shell Crab, Mee Poh with Soft Shell Crabs and the exquisite Laksa with Soft Shell Crabs. The thick & spicy coconut milk soup base will make you selectively forget that you were ever on a diet.
Besides the popular Chilli Crab and Black Pepper Crab,
you can look forward to savouring Chef Jackson’s new crab recipes like Crab with Tang Gui. Tang gui also called Chinese Angelica is highly respected in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and second only to ginseng. It’s the first I have ever tasted crabs boiled in Tang Gui and I was really surprised that the combination worked out pretty well. Tang gui gives an initial bitter taste before its subtle sweetness kicks in hence diners who are not familiar with Chinese medicinal herbs may not like it. I personally liked the execution.
Baked Crab was one of the new innovations as well. I am not awfully fond of the treatment. The crab turned out a little dry and the accompanying sauce did not really help much.
Salted Egg Crab was one of the hot favourites. But that’s the easy one, it’s terribly hard to ever go wrong with salted egg sauce.
We adore the Nonya Curry Crab and we were so glad that mud crab instead of the flower crab. There’s more succulent meat to go with the yummy nonya curry! Besides these, we were also served the Butter Crab, Stirred Fried Crab with Egg Yolk and XO Crab.
Plaza Brasserie thoughtfully prepared hot varieties that include Stir-Fried Squid with Celery in “XO” Sauce, Oatmeal Prawns, Nonya Curry Chicken, Eight Treasure Duck, Steam Fish in “Hong Kong” Style, Fried Baby Kai Lan and Crabmeat Fried Rice, Crispy Soft Shell Crabs and Braised Sea Cucumber with Roast Pork and Mushrooms. Here’s the chef behind our wonderful feast!
While enjoying the food, we went on a camwhoring rampage too. Here’s with Joey & CKChai.
Grateful to William’s camera for my SKII Face.
A shot with the new face of KFC – James Aw
After our fill of Sweet Potato, Water Chestnut, Bubur Cha Cha, Mini French Pastries, Chocolate Truffle and Cheese Cake, Assorted Ice-Creams, Fresh Fruits, Almond Beancurd, Chin Chow, Rice Pudding with Vanilla Sauce, American Cheesecake, Chocolate Fondue served with Fresh Fruits, Dried Fruits and Marshmallows; everyone got together for a memorable group photo.
