Bangkok is one of my favourite places for a good weekend retail therapy. Other than the usual street fashion wear, the Thai Capital is also a great place to get affordable tailor-made shirts, pants and suits to get you all dressed up for your next promotion. Unfortunately, it does take a bit of luck or trial and error to find honest and quality tailors. The city has its fair share of pushy, unreliable tailors who take every opportunity to fleece unsuspecting tourist. To help save my fellow Singaporeans from the agony of pricey and low quality tailor-made office wear, I will like to introduce my usual tailor – Unique Tailor.

Although they have a retail website, I still make it a point to visit their physical store for new measurements (in case I gain or lose inches off the waist) and to also physically feel and choose my cloth material. I always plan my trip to Unique Tailor on the first day when I arrive in Bangkok so as to give ample time to try out the fitting and make amendments if necessary. The nearest BTS is Asoke, the station just next to Terminal 21.

One of the key challenges of doing your own shirts, pants or suit from scratch is the challenge of choosing the right cloth from the sea of fabric. There are all kinds of wool fabrics consisting of different weights, textures, qualities, and designs at Unique Tailor.
Their fabric material ranges from medium quality, to high quality, and even rare and top of the notch quality. The fashionable pinstripe, the classic solids, checks and plaids, and tone on tone, are only few of the many types designs available at their store.
Sam, one of the co-owner understands my selection dilemma and patiently advice suitable fabrics for my shirts.
Unique Tailors provide ‘real’ bespoke service for customised tailored suits. You get to select the fabric and decide whether you prefer a two button suit, three button suits, or a double breasted suit etc.
Other jacket options include having a center vent, two side vents, or no vents (closed) on the rear side. Hand stitching on the lapels is an option, and the width of the lapels is also customisable.
You also can choose to have your names engraved inside their custom jackets as well as the colours of your jacket’s interior silk linings which come in different colors and patterns. Trouser options include having either pleats or no pleats, cuffs or no cuffs.
Once the fabrics are selected, Sam proceed to take my measurements. I shared with him that I am not into the really tight fitting shirts, some room for comfortable manoeuvres will be good. Sam is really professional and detailed when taking measurements. That’s him making me flex my biceps to ensure a comfortable fit for my shirt sleeves.
With all the measurement taken and downpayment made, I came back to the store a day later to try out the fitting. Fitting is the chance for you to try on a draft of your order to make sure everything fits and looks how you want it to.
Sam is committed to make sure that my shirt fits right down to the shirt sleeve. The draft was a great fit. I love the touch of good quality fabric. I am going for good quality solid colours from now on. Before you leave, you should also check out their wide variety of work ties to go along with your new shirts or suits.
Once the fitting is done, you just have to pick up your order a day or two later at the store. I love my new shirts!
